Donations Portal for Charitable Organizations … The joy of giving

In the spirit of giving and donating during the holy month of Ramadan and Eid al Fitr, the Information Technology Authority (ITA) is continuing to raise awareness about the Donations Portal for Charitable Organizations. This portal greatly simplifies the act of making donations to a charity of one’s choice by offering the opportunity for citizens and residents to do so online.

The participating charity organizations include: Dar Al Atta'a Charity, Oman Association for Disabled, Environment Society of Oman, The Association of the welfare of the Handicapped, Al Noor Association for the Blind, Association of Early Intervention for Children with Special Needs, National Association for Cancer Awareness, Oman Hereditary Blood Disorder Association & Oman Charity Organization. 

The portal makes it easy to donate with a single click from anywhere and at any time. And yes, contributions made via the website do directly benefit the selected charity.  As it is Ramadan and in anticipation of the celebration of Eid Al Fitr, the ITA invites all citizens and residents in the Sultanate of Oman to donate to these aid organizations using the donations portal.

The bilingual online portal [www.onlinedonations.org.om] designed for  transparency, convincing, simple and user-friendliness.  The Donations Portal guiding principles allows citizens as well as the residents of the Sultanate to make direct donations using their bank credit cards to the respective bank accounts of the charitable organizations. Security was also given high priority, as all transactions are carried out accurately and safely within seconds through the closely monitored portal to protect people’s interests.

This portal supports humanitarian efforts for charity by eliminating the donor’s problems of time and distance using technology. This electronic channel connecting donors and beneficiaries process charitable payments completely electronically utilizing the e-payment gateway operated by the ITA.

Designed for simplicity, making a donation is as easy as making a payment using a debit or credit card authorized by an Omani bank. Oman’s Online Donations Portal receives Arab e-Content Award

Oman’s Online Donations Portal has won the Arab Regional e-Content award in the e-inclusion category under the World Summit Awards program. The Information Technology Authority’s (ITA) in association with the Ministry of Social Development had launched the official online donations portal www.onlinedonations.org.om  in January 2009.

This bilingual portal available in both Arabic and English facilitates electronic payment of charity contributions to organisations approved and supported by the Ministry of Social Development of Oman. Currently there are five different organisations benefitted under the umbrella of this portal: National Association for Cancer Awareness, Association of Early Intervention for Children with Special Needs, Oman Association for Disabled, Al Noor Association for the Blind and the Association of the welfare of the Handicapped.

The World Summit Award is instituted to recognise creativity in digital content and enhance the quality of electronic contents and widen its reach for the common benefit of the world society as a whole. The World Summit Award (WSA) as a global initiative, implements UN’s  directives on global efforts to support and develop high-quality e-Contents and innovative ICT applications. By selecting, presenting and promoting the best products from all over the world in that field, it makes a contribution to bridging the Digital Divide and narrowing the Content Gap.


The final award ceremony to honour excellence in e-Content creation in the Arab region will be held in Bahrain on the 25th  May 2009. All the regional winners including the ‘Online Donations Portal’ of Oman will be present at this grand finale event to receive their awards.

Online Donations Portal has been developed with the vision to promote charity for valuable social causes in the Sultanate of Oman, by providing an electronic gateway to facilitate payment of donations to charitable organisations supported by the Ministry of Social Development. This is inline with ITA’s mission to use technology to benefit the community including the less privileged people and the people with special needs. Having a single portal for charities helps to collect donations online and manage & track money received completely online; the portal offers services to citizens to support community using online payment from anywhere in Oman.

This portal supports humanitarian efforts for charity by serving as an electronic channel connecting donors and beneficiaries and utilising the e-payment gateway operated by the ITA to process the payments between the concerned banks. Winning the WSA Award for its social cause and its potential positive effect on the under-privileged members of the community is truly an international recognition.


Oman’s first Online Donations Portal Launch

The Information Technology Authority’s (ITA) in association with the Ministry of Social Development launched the official online donations portal http://www.onlinedonations.org.om/  on the 13th January 2009 at the Board Room of ITA, Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM).

This portal was launched by H.E Ahmed Rashid Mohammed al Mamari, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Development in the presence of Dr. Salim Al Ruzaiqi, CEO of ITA and Mr. Mohamed Ali Al Qaed, CEO of eGovernment Authority, Kingdom of Bahrain.

This official donations portal approved and supported by the Ministry of Social Development of Oman makes it possible for donors to contribute to charitable organizations such as the Association of the welfare of the Handicapped, the Association of Early Intervention for Children with Special Needs, Oman Association for Disabled, Al Noor Association for the Blind and the National Association for Cancer Awareness completely online.

ITA in line with His Majesty’s vision of harnessing technology has developed this portal to promote charity which is embodied in the practice of Islam. The portal makes it easy for Omani citizens and residents to donate with a single click from anywhere and at their suitable time without a need to travel to ay of the charity organisations.

Donations Portal processes donations through bank cards issued in Oman and currently doesn’t accept donations through any other cards.   The portal can be effectively used by Omani Citizens / Residents who have account in Omani banks will be able to make Donation online.
